Litecoin Hits 8-Month High as ETF Holdings Set Record — Can Bulls Clear $75?

Both speculative and institutional demand for Litecoin are on the rise. However, derivatives data indicates that leverage—rather than spot buying—is fueling the bulk of the recent rally.

Open Interest Nears 2026 Peak

Litecoin’s futures open interest (OI) has climbed to approximately $670 million, sitting just under its yearly high of roughly $690 million, which was established in January. Over a two-day span, OI added about $140 million and has more than doubled since hitting its low in June.

This growth is not simply a byproduct of climbing prices. According to Glassnode, open interest measured in LTC expanded by about 25% over the past week, confirming that traders are actively opening new positions.

The last instance of leverage reaching these levels ended poorly. Back in January, open interest peaked just as LTC experienced a rollover from above $80, leading to a subsequent price drop down to roughly $53 in the following weeks.

ETF Holdings Hit Record High

Simultaneously, US spot Litecoin ETF balances tracked by Glassnode reached an all-time high of approximately 175,000 LTC. Canary Capital’s LTCC added roughly 39,000 LTC in its largest single-day inflow to date, bringing its total holdings to nearly double what they were in January.

It is worth noting that ETF balances continued to climb even throughout the June market crash down to $41.

Even so, overall scale remains a factor. The most recent inflow amounts to roughly $2.8 million, whereas open interest expanded by approximately $270 million over that same week. While ETF demand is certainly growing, it remains too small to drive the price upward on its own.

Litecoin Price Analysis: Bulls Test Key Resistance

Looking at the daily chart, LTC managed to breach both the 0.5 Fibonacci retracement level ($62.09) and the 0.618 level ($67.47) within a single candle. Following that surge, the asset tested the 0.786 zone near $75, which is the exact area where a breakdown occurred in late January.

This push above the May high of around $60 represents the first higher high recorded since the February–May trading range, following an established pattern of higher lows since June.

Meanwhile, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits at 81, marking its highest reading for the year. While bearish divergence is absent, these overbought conditions increase the likelihood of a short-term cooldown.

What’s Next for LTC?

A confirmed daily close above the $75 mark could clear a path toward $80 and potentially challenge the January high of $84.89.

Should a correction take place, $67.47 will serve as the initial line of support. Further down, the $60–$62 zone—where the 0.5 retracement level intersects with the former May high—is expected to provide robust support. However, a daily close falling below $56.70 would cast doubt on the validity of the breakout.

Given that market leverage is hovering near yearly highs, a temporary pullback before any subsequent upward movement remains a distinct possibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both institutional and speculative demand are contributing to the rise in Litecoin’s price, though derivatives data shows that increased leverage is driving the majority of the current movement rather than spot buying.

LTC bulls are testing the 0.786 Fibonacci retracement zone near $75, which is the same level where the price broke down back in late January.
