Bitcoin Google Searches Hit a 6-Year Low. Willy Woo Calls It a Buy Signal

Google searches for “bitcoin” have fallen to about 14 on a 100-point scale, their weakest reading in roughly six years. On-chain analyst Willy Woo says that kind of silence has historically marked the best time to buy.

However, today’s searchers look different. Bitcoin (BTC) trades near $82,070, up 1.5% in 24 hours, and traders appear to dominate what interest remains.

Do Low Bitcoin Google Searches Signal a Buy Zone?

On October 15, Woo shared Google Trends data for “Bitcoin” and “BTCUSD” with a simple contrarian rule.

The pattern has held before. A chart from X user gidwell0x overlays price on the search data. It shows “bitcoin” searches peaking in December 2017, the same month BTC topped near $20,000.

Interest then sank to around 10 during the 2018 and 2019 bear market, a strong accumulation window in hindsight.

Why Traders, Not Newcomers, Now Move the Needle

This cycle, “bitcoin” searches never climbed above roughly 45, far below the 2017 and 2021 peaks.

In contrast, “BTCUSD” searches set a record in 2025, shortly before BTC’s October all-time high.

That split suggests the audience changed. Traders and ETF-era investors, rather than curious newcomers, drove the latest wave of attention. Woo has argued Bitcoin may abandon its halving cycle for longer traditional finance (TradFi) cycles.

The signal also has a timing flaw. In 2021, search interest peaked about six months before the November price top. Other contrarian gauges, like extreme fear readings, have shown similar lags.

October data covers only a partial month. Each term is scaled to its own peak, so the two lines cannot be compared directly.

How Small Is Bitcoin Next to Gold and Stocks?

Bitcoin’s market value stands near $1.65 trillion, according to live BTC price data.

Gold is worth about $29.3 trillion, roughly 18 times more, based on World Gold Council supply estimates. Global equities reached $157.8 trillion at the end of 2025, according to the World Federation of Exchanges.

Several replies to Woo read that gap as room to grow. Others cited US midterm elections, ongoing wars, and an energy crisis as reasons BTC could stay range-bound.

If Woo’s rule holds, today’s quiet points to accumulation rather than euphoria. Yet with traders now shaping search traffic, Google data may track speculative appetite more than mainstream adoption.
