Bitcoin Erases Overnight Crash as $420 Million Bets Fuel Bullish Hopes

Bitcoin has staged a remarkable V-shaped recovery, climbing from $75,700 to over $78,300 within hours as traders placed hundreds of millions of dollars in bullish bets.

Can Bitcoin price reclaim $80,000, or is this another temporary rally?

Why Did Bitcoin Crash and Recover So Quickly?

Bitcoin plunged early Wednesday as Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in the US midterm elections.

Investors feared the results could delay Trump’s crypto-friendly legislation. Nasdaq futures also dropped sharply before recovering.

As political uncertainty faded, institutional traders began positioning for a Bitcoin rebound.

Election-day Bitcoin options block trading reached $660 million, more than double the previous day.

Traders bought roughly $420 million in call options against $105 million sold. These contracts provide exposure to rising Bitcoin prices.

Leveraged trading also amplified the volatility. Falling prices triggered forced closures of bullish positions, while traders betting on further declines faced liquidations as Bitcoin recovered.

The combination helped produce the sharp reversal.

Can Bitcoin Break Above $80,000 Next?

The recovery has improved short-term momentum, but significant resistance remains.

Bitcoin was extremely oversold yesterday, with its RSI (Relative Strength Index) falling to 13. It has since rebounded, which makes a rally back to $82,000 likely.

However, Bitfinex’s latest analysis identifies $81,300 as a major resistance level, with substantial Bitcoin holdings purchased above current prices potentially creating selling pressure.

The bigger concern is weak demand.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $1.16 billion in net outflows across the last three trading sessions.

Analysts at Wintermute argue that Bitcoin needs to reclaim and hold $80,000, supported by genuine spot buying and ETF inflows, to strengthen its recovery.

A sustained breakout could open the path toward 81,300–82,000. Failure to clear $80,000 would leave Bitcoin exposed to another test of $77,000 and potentially Wednesday’s $75,700 low.

For now, the options market signals renewed optimism. Whether actual Bitcoin buyers follow will determine if the recovery lasts.
