XT Exchange at Eight: Building Before You Need It

At XT Exchange’s eighth-anniversary X Space, COO Arman Achmed reflected on how the standard for a crypto exchange has changed, and why the work done during periods of stability determines how confidently a platform can move into what comes next.

A crypto exchange is often judged most closely when markets become difficult. Systems are expected to keep working, teams have to make decisions quickly, and users want clear information about what is happening.

For Arman Achmed, COO of XT Exchange, the more important work begins much earlier.

“You can’t control the market, but you can build an organization that’s ready for it,” he said during XT Exchange’s eighth-anniversary X Space.

Eight years of operating in crypto have changed what that readiness means. Earlier in the industry’s development, access to assets, liquidity and reliable execution could do much of the work of distinguishing one exchange from another. Those things still matter, but users increasingly treat them as a starting point rather than the full standard.

Today, an exchange is also judged by how reliably it operates as activity rises, how responsibly it handles assets, how clearly it communicates and whether the account remains useful as users’ needs expand beyond a single trade.

XT’s own development reflects that broader shift. What began as a crypto trading platform in 2018 now spans spot, margin and futures trading alongside traditional-market exposure, real-world asset products and payments through XT Pay.

The significance of that expansion is not simply that more services appear inside one account. Each additional use case also creates another place where execution, risk controls, support and user expectations have to meet.

That makes resilience as much a condition for growth as a defense against disruption.

A platform that is still solving basic operational problems has less room to take on additional complexity. Investment in systems, processes, and people creates that room before it is visible to the user. The result may eventually appear as a new market, a smoother payment experience or a service that continues to work when activity changes, but much of the capability behind it has to exist before the feature arrives.

The same principle applies to trust. Statements from a platform matter less when users have no way to compare them with what they can observe. XT publishes Proof of Reserves information for covered assets and provides a way for users to verify that their balances were included in a reserve snapshot.

It also operates a public bug bounty program that gives outside security researchers a route to report vulnerabilities.

Neither mechanism eliminates risk, nor does either replace the broader work of operating an exchange responsibly. Their value lies in making part of that work visible and verifiable.

Arman described the standard more simply: what a platform says, what users can verify, and what they experience from the service should agree.

Communication becomes especially important when the picture is not yet complete.

“If you know what happened, then you should explain it. And if you are still looking into it, say that,” he said.

The point is not that every uncertainty can be resolved immediately. It is that users should not have to guess whether a platform understands what is happening or whether new information will be shared as it becomes available. Operational readiness and communication are therefore difficult to separate. One determines what a team can do; the other determines whether users can understand what it is doing.

That perspective gives XT’s eighth anniversary a purpose beyond looking back.

The crypto market that XT entered in 2018 is not the one it operates in today, and the next stage will introduce expectations that cannot all be predicted in advance. Experience is useful not because it makes the next market cycle predictable, but because it changes what an organization chooses to build before prediction becomes necessary.

That is also the idea behind Build the NeXT. The next stage is not only about adding another product or reaching another market. It depends on whether the platform underneath those ambitions has accumulated the capacity to support them.

Eight years do not remove uncertainty. They can leave an organization better prepared to keep building through it.
