Securitize Stock Surges 15% as SEC’s Tokenization Exemption Turns RWA Theory Into Trading Reality

Securitize (SECZ) stock climbed over 15% on Friday, carrying forward a steep rebound right as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) established a fresh regulatory pathway for trading tokenized equities.

Trading at $16.53, the firm—which develops real-world asset (RWA) tokenization infrastructure and acts as the transfer agent for BlackRock’s blockchain-based money market fund, BUIDL—has watched its stock surge 77% across the last five sessions and 158% over the past month.

The Rule Behind the Rally

This regulatory relief arrives on the heels of surging momentum for tokenized real-world assets, spanning everything from private credit and funds to onchain equities. The SEC established a five-year Innovation Exemption on September 17, enabling tokenized securities platforms to function without traditional exchange registration.

Additionally, the exemption excuses specific liquidity providers from broker-dealer registration requirements when they furnish tokenized shares to automated market maker (AMM) pools.

SEC Chair Paul Atkins described the exemption as a short-term bridge.

“in a permissioned environment today while the commission considers the need for additional action to facilitate onchain trading”

Paul Atkins, SEC chair, said

This directive follows a joint January declaration by the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). That guidance categorized tokenized securities while emphasizing that the tokenization process merely alters a security’s format rather than its underlying legal classification.

Securitize’s Bet on Onchain Equity

Following its July debut on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) via a business combination with Cantor Equity Partners II, Securitize simultaneously tokenized $295 million worth of its proprietary SECZ stock across the Solana and Avalanche blockchains, setting a record for the largest issuer-backed tokenized stock rollout to date.

With its six-month, year-to-date, and 12-month performance figures all hovering near 50%, Securitize’s dramatic 158% one-month surge indicates that virtually all of its yearly gains have materialized during this recent breakout.

While clearer regulations eliminate a major hurdle for tokenization platforms, they do not assure sustained investor demand for an enterprise striving for steady profitability. Consequently, the endurance of this rally may hinge on that outcome.
