Japanese exchange Rakuten Wallet is offering Shiba Inu (SHIB) holders a physical souvenir coin at a seminar, even as the meme token’s price keeps sliding under pressure from US inflation data.
The giveaway shows how established platforms are using offline events to keep meme coin communities engaged.
Japan’s Rakuten Wallet Plans a SHIB Coins Giveaway
Rakuten Wallet’s physical Shiba Inu coins are metal souvenir tokens first introduced in July 2026. They have no technical link to the blockchain or to actual SHIB tokens, so they serve purely as collectibles and promotional items.
The July launch was described as the first physical Shiba Inu coin of its kind. Each piece uses sandblasting technology to create a distinctive blast finish that sets it apart visually.
Rakuten Wallet has handed out similar coins before. The exchange distributed them at a Fukuoka event and plans to repeat the promotion at seminars in Sapporo and Osaka.
The promotion fits a broader pattern. Rakuten Wallet has supported Shiba Inu since adding the meme coin to its trading lineup in April, and the physical coins extend that support into face-to-face events.
Rakuten Wallet’s “Real Coin” series already includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP, and the metal SHIB coin has joined that lineup.
Collectors may value the design, but the coins remain separate from the tokens themselves.
Why Is Rakuten Wallet Handing Out Metal Coins?
The answer lies in engagement. Rakuten Wallet is pairing educational seminars with an accessible reward, which helps it connect with meme coin holders beyond the trading screen.
The process is simple. Participants only need to show staff a screen of their SHIB holdings in the Rakuten Wallet app. Everyone who meets that requirement receives a physical coin without exception.
The backdrop is less encouraging. SHIB was trading lower, down about 2.23% over 24 hours to roughly $0.00000496.
The decline followed higher-than-expected US inflation data, which raised concerns about possible rate moves. The token had also slipped over several consecutive days.
